The launch of the MPP9 project in Abia State held on 23rd November 2009, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia. The PMU were represented by Mrs. Tammie Kammonke and Mr. Akpabio Udo. The government of Abia State honoured the event with the presence of his Excellency Governor T. A Orji, and other top government dignitaries. Many traditional rulers, members of the civil society as well as the press were among the nearly three hundred guests that attended the event. The Launch commenced with a technical session as a prelude to the arrival of the government functionaries. Technical papers were presented by the State Team Leader and the Gender Expert at the PMU. Lots of questions were entertained and addressed during the session.
The MPP9 programme was introduced to the Abia State Government on the 31st of July, 2009. Disclosing to the Abia State Deputy Governor – Comrade Chris Akomas in Umuahia, Mr Ramon Maria Reigada Granda, the Head of Rural, Social, Health and Water and Sanitation Unit of the Delegation of the European Commission to Nigeria representing the Head of EC Delegation in Nigeria, explained the MPP9 Programme stressing the involvement of the LGA in the co-funding of projects to the tune of 25%. This he said will engender good governance and transparency.
