The launch of the MPP9 project in Abia State held on 23rd November 2009, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia. The PMU were represented by Mrs. Tammie Kammonke and Mr. Akpabio Udo. The government of Abia State honoured the event with the presence of his Excellency Governor T. A Orji, and other top government dignitaries. Many traditional rulers, members of the civil society as well as the press were among the nearly three hundred guests that attended the event. The Launch commenced with a technical session as a prelude to the arrival of the government functionaries. Technical papers were presented by the State Team Leader and the Gender Expert at the PMU. Lots of questions were entertained and addressed during the session. The Governor of Abia State performed the launch at about 3.00pm and the cutting of the inauguration cake followed shortly after. Prior to the launch, the PMU Team Leader (represented by by Mrs Tammie Kammonoke), the Abia DMU State Team Leader, the Executive Secretary Abia State Planning Commission, and the State Governor presented addresses in that order. A vote thanks was later given by the Commissioner for Poverty Reduction and Cooperatives, Chief Amanze Israel. The event came to an end at about 4:05pm. Tea break and lunch was provided at the occasion. The huge turn- out at the launch could be attributed to the wide publicity which the team had been according the MPP9 program in the State through the radio and print media. As would be expected the Abia State launch was aired on local television and radio programs for days. The national network news of radio Nigeria also aired the event.
