| Report on Bayelsa MPP9 State launch Ceremony |

The formal launch ceremony of the MPP9 project in Bayelsa state took place onTuesday, March 04, 2010 at Ididie Hotels in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The Launch programme attracted digin itaries from the various stakeholders in the state covering government officials, CSOs, communities and the media. The state governor was represented by the Commissioner of finance and Budget, Dr. Opuala Charles. Also in attendance were Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice – Hon Chief George Ikoli (SAN),Commissioner for Education, Chief Josephine Ezonbodo, Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Gaieye Frank Oputu, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agric and Natural Resources, Mr Perekake Gede, Special Adviser (SA) on NGOs and Donor Agencies, Hon. Torpedo Amananagham, Ogbia Local Government Council Chairman, Chief Akataka Okpu, Yenagoa Local Government Council Chairman, Hon. Monesue Macbere, GM of Glory land Television. Also representatives from over 75 communities from all local Government and civil society organisations were present. The governor through his representative pledged the State Government loyalty and commitment to ensure that the project is successful in the state. He pointed out the fact that the state government has been highly sensitive to development of the millennium development goal, as it fully acknowledges it irrevocable commitment towards sustainable development. It was further noted that the launch is a step in the right direction in finding a sustained solution to the poverty reduction in the Niger Delta. He urged the various local councils to ensure that they meet up with their own contributions and plan towards it. He also urged the Communities to accept the project and ensure that they meet their requirements. The State Government pledged to create the right atmosphere for the success of the programme. Also in his Speech the Special Adviser on NGOs and Donor Agencies, Hon. Torpedo Amananaghan called on all stakeholders to put in their best and ensure that the projects to be executed should be focused on communities in the rural areas. The PMU being represented by Mr. Usani affirm the EU commitment to the implementation of the MPP9 project in the state. He called for collective participation from benefitting communities, local government councils and other stakeholders in achieving the desired goal of development.
